Official Souvenir Program: Yankee Stadium-- Opening Day April 18th, 1923

Hoboken, NJ: Terminal Printing & Lithographing, 1973. Original Wraps. First Thus. A 1973 facsimile reproduction --scarce in its own right-- of the program of the very first game played at Yankee Stadium. Clean and bright and VG+ in its wonderful pictorial, stapled wrappers. The 2 cameo photos on the front cover are of Col. Jacob Ruppert, President of the Yankees at the time, and Col. T.L. Huston, the team's Vice-President and Treasurer. The program was originally published by Harry M. Stevens, whose name is prominently featured at the bottom, and it cost 15 cents. (The editor's note on the title page: "This program is an exact reprint of the souvenir program sold at Yankee Stadium on April 18, 1923, including the same advertising copy. The Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox, 4-1, before 74, 217 fans, a record at that time. More than 15,000 fans were turned away, according to press reports. Bob Shawkey was the starting and winning pitcher for the Yankees and Babe Ruth, appropriately, hit the only home run of the game, the first ever at Yankee Stadium."). Magazine-formatted, quarto, strong orange and black print to the covers. The 1923 original in such nice condition would be unimaginably scarce. Collectible; Very Good. Item #5502
