From the "Description" onm the front cover: "From 1964 to 1970, George Jackson wrote these letters to his mother, father, sisters, brother Jonathan (who was recently killed in the Marin County courthouse shhot-out), friend Angela Davis, and lawyer Fay Stender. Jackson and two other black prisoners have become known as the Soledad Brothers since they were charged with the murder of a white prison guard earlier this year.
