The 1950 and 1954 Palm Springs, California Phone Directories
Santa Ana, CA: Western Directory Company, 1950, 1954. Pictorial wrappers. A pair of surprisingly elusive Palm Springs phone directories from the early 1950s. As if to confirm that Palm Springs really was the playground for Hollywood, the directories include both the phone numbers and street addresses of such luminaries as: Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz, Walt Disney, Dinah Shore and Raymond Loewy, among others. Including wonderful period ads at the front and rear, the 1950 directory weighs in at just under 150 pgs. and the 1954 directory, already reflecting the additional migrations to Palm Springs, comes in at well over 200 pgs. Happily, both directories are clean, Near Fine and well-preserved in their wonderful mustard-yellow wrappers, with just a touch of creasing along the upper tip of 1954's front panel.
