Item #23434 The Original Artwork for the Cover of the June 3rd, 1922 Yale-Princeton Baseball Game Program

The Original Artwork for the Cover of the June 3rd, 1922 Yale-Princeton Baseball Game Program

The original gouache and ink on which the cover of the program for the June 3rd, 1922 Princeton at Yale intercollegiate baseball game was based. Though apparently unsigned, this piece was very possibly, if not likely, painted by W.B. Crocker. The piece is bright and very sharp (with just a touch of light rubbing) and measures 5 3/4" wide x 7 1/2" tall. The dark-green matting, which may conceal a bit more of the piece (including the artist's signature?), and the light-brown wood frame nicely complement the pitcher-catcher-batter-umpire action depiction. A wonderful piece of Americana and a nice example of pre-Ivy League athletics. (Yale, as it turns out, buried Princeton 14-5 in this series-opener in New Haven). Near Fine. Item #23434
