Item #18564 Andy Warhol's 1949 College Yearbook (Senior Year)

Andy Warhol's 1949 College Yearbook (Senior Year)

Pittsburgh: Carnegie Institute of Technology, 1949. Decorative Cloth. A tight, clean copy of Andy Warhol's Senior Year College Yearbook, the 1949 "Thistle", the Yearbook of Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, which in 1967 would become Carnegie Mellon University. There's only 1 photograph of Warhol in the yearbook, a now-legendary picture of him posing with the other 5 members (all women) of the "Modern Dance Club". In the photo he's identfied as "A. Warhola". Curiously, even though it's well-established that he graduated in this class (the Class of '49), he's not listed --or given a photograph-- with the other graduating Seniors of the "Department of Painting and Design". Notably though, Warhol's classmate Philip Pearlstein, who would emerge to become a great American Realist painter in his own right, was seated with the other graduating Seniors and given a photograph and caption. The yearbook, solid and VG+ to Near Fine in its chocolate-brown boards, has held up very nicely. Just a touch of light soiling along the rear panel, otherwise clean as could be. A nice piece of Warhol curiosa and ephemera. Near Fine. Item #18564
