1856. The uncommon 1856 1st edition of one of the great early surveys of New York City and its environs, with 2 large fold-out maps in addition to many full-page engravings and hand-colored maps. Bound (in a contemporary-to-the-period 1/4 leather over dark boards) with the 1855 1st edition of "Springs, Water-Falls, Sea-Bathing Resorts, and Mountain Scenery of The United States and Canada; Giving an Analysis of the Principal Mineral Springs with a Brief Description of the Most Fashionable Water-Places, Mountain Resorts, &c." AND the 1859 1st edition of "Munsell's Guide to the Hudson River by Railroad and Steamboat. Representing Every Town, Village, Landing, Railroad Station, and Point of Interest on or Adjacent to the Hudson River, from Staten Island to Troy, with Minute Descriptions and References, for the Convenience of the Business Man and the Traveler" AND FINALLY the 1859 1st edition of "Nelson's Guide to Lake George and Lake Champlain, with Oil-Colour Views Drawn from Photographs Taken Expressly for This Work". These 4 travel guides have held up very well, with bright, clean pages and tipped-in plates and maps. Light wear along the spine ends and the outer hinges but still solidly VG to VG+ and very presentable. Thick 64mo, the 4 guides bound together make up a very nice piece of mid-19th century Americana.
