About Us

Bryan Bilby co-owned The Adobe Bookshop in San Francisco's Mission District (1989-1994) with a friend from Columbia University and then opened Chelsea Bookshop in San Francisco's Inner Sunset (1995-2003).

He and his wife Christine (who ran the day-to-day operations at Chelsea) moved back East in the fall of 2003.  Together they established Appledore Books, which they run out of their tiny 200 year old farmhouse named Appledore, situated 50 miles north of New York City.

Bryan was proud to join the Antiquarian Bookseller's Association of America (ABAA) in 2004 and has been exhibiting ever since at annual ABAA New York, Boston and San Francisco rare book fairs.  In addition to bookselling, Christine is a professional librarian and archivist.

Appledore Books is always interested in purchasing unusual material and is open to traveling far and wide to look at collections.  From a single title to a vast library (and everything in between), we're happy to talk about any crop of books and to discuss the particular needs of each seller.  Please feel free to get in touch.
