Les Ballets de Paris ("La Lanterne Magique du Ballet Romantique")
New York: The Hugo Gallery, 1949. Ephemera. Very scarce announcement for the 1949 Joseph Cornell exhibition ("La Lanterne Magique du Ballet Romantique") at New York's Hugo Gallery at "26 East 55". Choreographed by the renowned set designer and choreographer Roland Petit, who had just a year earlier formed "Les Ballets de Paris". Formatted like a greeting card, folded neatly in half and showing additional light creasing. Pictorial front and rear covers (the front cover highlighting the ballerina Renee “Zizi” Jeanmaire {the wife of Roland Petit} AND Joseph Cornell's birds; the rear cover adorned by a photo of Roland Petit and several examples of his choreography). Bright, crisp and VG to VG+, in spite of the mild creasing. A nice piece of uncommon Joseph Cornell ephemera, this copy comes directly from Cornell's family (further background supplied upon request) and in fact has never been outside of the family until now. Very Good +. Item #22574
