The major Art Deco ("Arts Decoratifs") catalogue, based on the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes, "the World's Fair of design --the first since the War-- and the exhibition that essentially defined Art Deco". Includes 96 photogravure plates per volume, a number of them in color. The original edition (circa 1925-1927), published in 12 volumes but here lacking #3 and #12. Each of the 10 volumes that make up this set tight and VG- in their 1/2 vellum over marbled boards, with pronounced soiling and abrading along several of the covers. (To be sure, even though this is still very desirable as such, our set should be viewed strictly as a reference (or reading) copy.) Bright gilt-titling to the spines, which, when read as a whole, should (famously) make up the phrase "Arts Decoratifs & Industriels Modernes". Lovely gravure throughout, with breathtaking matching endsheets and pastedowns. A landmark set in the world of design and Art Deco, even in this incomplete, somewhat-compromised state. Very Good -.
