The chateau designed for Cardinal Richelieu ("L'etat, c'est moi!!") by the great French architect Jacques Le Mercier. Bound in a lovely full calf --with beautiful gilt-flourishes and bordering-- by Christian Samuel Kalthoeber (1752-1819) in the late 18th/early 19th century. Oblong folio, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Lovely gilt-tooling within the compartments along the spine. Small, older catalogue entry for this title neatly affixed to the front pastedown, otherwise very clean.
