Item #20132 2 Wonderful Pieces of Baseball Ephemera (1948 and 1949 Brooklyn Dodgers)

2 Wonderful Pieces of Baseball Ephemera (1948 and 1949 Brooklyn Dodgers)

Vero Beach, Florida: The Brooklyn Dodgers, 1948 and 1949. Pictorial wrappers. (2) Brooklyn Dodgers Spring Training programs, one from March 1948, the other from March 1949, both prominently featuring Jackie Robinson, among others, 1 SIGNED BY CONNIE MACK. The March 31st, 1948 program is tight and VG+ in its salmon wrappers. It features the Dodgers against the Triple A Montreal club (where Jackie Robinson had played his Minor League ball) and the line-ups are made out by hand, with Jackie Robinson playing 1st base and batting lead-off. Wonderful photos of the usual suspects (Branch Rickey, Leo Durocher, Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider, etc.) and locally-base ads. The game was played in Dodgertown, in Vero Beach, Florida and on the second to last page there's a full-page tribute to Jackie Robinson called "Welcome Dodgers!" and sub-titled "Best Wishes from Fan Friends of Jackie Robinson", with a handsome black-and-white photo of him and a list of people aligning themselves with him; The 2nd program, in its blue stapled wrappers, has also held up very nicely. Clean and VG+ to Near Fine, with the line-up to the March 16th, 1949 game between the Dodgers and the Philadelphia Athletics once again written out in hand. Above the Athletics' line-up Connie Mack, the legendary Manager of the Athletics, has signed his name. Photos in this program include Spider Jorgensen, Harry Taylor, Ralph Branca, Joe Hatten, Jackie Robinson, Bill Cox, Duke Snider, Carl Furillo, Rex Barney, Pee Wee Reese, Clyde Sukeforth, Roy Campanella, Walter Alston, George Sisler, Branch Rickey, etc. 2 nice pieces of baseball history -- and of Americana. Very Good +. Item #20132
