Poetry Comics (The First 16 Issues of the Scarce Original Printing)

Iowa City, Iowa: The Happy Press, 1979-1980. Dave Morice. Pictorial wrappers. An all-but-complete run of the uncommon original incarnation of this underground poetry collection by the renowned Iowa City poet and performance artist Dave Morice. Missing only the final issue, volume #17. Created as a monthly (when possible), starting in June of 1979 and running through October 1981. Showcasing Morice's considerable skills an an illustrator as well as his irreverent humor (here directed at the giants of poetry). All 16 issues have held up very nicely. Each is clean and VG+ to Near Fine in its stapled, pictorial wrappers, with very light, occasional creasing along the edges. Internally, each issue is clean as could be, with no writing or markings of any kind. Simon and Schuster, quick to recognize the quality of Morice's poetry 'zine, republished all 17 issues very early on, in 1982. But the true 1st editions remain elusive and wonderfully ephemeral. Near Fine. Item #19856
