Item #19391 The Story of Bacchus, and Centennial Souvenir. Brigham Payne.

The Story of Bacchus, and Centennial Souvenir

Hartford, CT: A.E. Brooks, 1876. Decorative Cloth. A handsome copy of the 1876 1st edition. Clean and VG in its terra-cotta cloth, with black-rule, gilt-titling and gilt-representation of Bacchus at the front panel. Very light foxing to the preliminaries (including the frontispiece etching of the statue Bacchus and its tissue-guard), fragile --yet still sturdy-- inner-hinge. 12mo, wonderful tale --nicely illustrated throughout-- of what became of the statue called "Bacchus", which had been carved by 4 British prisoners during the American Revolution. Very Good. Item #19391
