Item #18440 Slave-Conversion in South Carolina 1830-1860. Susan MarkeyFickling.

Slave-Conversion in South Carolina 1830-1860

The University of South Carolina, 1924. Original wraps. The uncommon 1924 1st edition of this thesis which was "prepared in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in the University of South Carolina. Mrs. Fickling has successfully investigated a field of this State's history comparatively unexplored, and, in recognition of the excellence of her work, was awarded the William Gilmore Simms prize". The fragile booklet is bright and clean in its printed brown wrappers. Both covers are present but have been neatly separated from their stapled binding. Light chipping and creasing as well along the panel edges but, still, very presentable and, internally, clean as could be, with no writing or markings to speak of. An important early 20th century contribution to South Carolina's history of slave conversion in the 30 year period leading up to the Civil War. Very Good -. Item #18440
