The 1940 edition of this impressive, short-lived French annual issued out of Paris and lasting only 11 years all told in this original incarnation. 90 lavish full-page gravures by the likes of Brassai, Bill Brandt, Philippe Halsman, Louise Dahl Wolfe, Florence Henri, Herbert List, Ylla et al. In addition, following the collection of gravures is a section titled "L'Humour Dans La Photographie", which features smaller, more frivolous photos of oddball, surreal moments. This issue has held up very well to boot: clean and VG+ to Near Fine in its spiral-bound, pictorial wrappers, with very light creasing at the front panel and just a touch of light rubbing and offsetting along the spine. Tall quarto, crisp and very presentable, with a number of hauntingly beautiful photos. Also includes a handsome navy-blue custom-made box (with bright gilt-titling along the spine), which houses the annual. Very Good +. Item #17502
