The Children of the Poor. Jacob A. Riis.

The Children of the Poor

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1892. Cloth. A very solid copy of the 1892 1st edition of the 2nd book published by the great Jacob Riis (two years after his seminal 1890 "How the Other Half Lives"). Tight and VG+ in its light-purple cloth, with very light wear at the fore-edge folds and along the spine crown. Thick octavo, poignant illustrations thruout complementing the text. 295 pgs. plus a "Register of Children's Charities" and "commendations" for "How the Other Half Lives". Notably, this copy belonged to --and was signed and dated in year-of-publication by-- Samuel V. Hoffman, future president of the New York Historical Society (1903-1912). Very Good +. Item #15411
