The 1938 and 1940 1st editions of this magnificent study of the mammals of China and Mongolia, issued by The American Museum of Natural History and complete in 2 volumes. Both volumes tight and Near Fine in crisp, price-clipped, VG+ examples of the uncommon dustjackets, with light creasing --and a bit of very light chipping-- along the spine ends and the panel edges. Still though, very presentable and well-preserved, and internally, clean as could be, with no writing or markings of any kind. Thick, uniform quartos. "With 22 Distribution Maps and 1 other Illustration in the Text and with 9 Plates" in Part 1; and "With 41 Distribution Maps and 11 other Illustrations in the Text and with 11 Plates" in Part 2. Also includes the publisher's original "Publication Note" laid-into Part 1, which justifies the need for a Part 2. The set constitutes Vol. XI of the Museum's wonderful "Natural History of Central Asia" series, which was based on the finds from 3 separate expeditions into China and Mongolia. each overseen and led by the formidable Roy Chapman Andrews.
