A Considerable Speck

A Considerable Speck

Cambridge, MA: Dard Hunter, Jr., 1939. Original wraps. An impressive, early effort by Dard Hunter, Jr., offering up this first separate edition of Frost's delivered poem at the Annual Dinner of the Colonial Society of Massachusetts on November 21st, 1939. A folio, in this case constituting a single folded, printed sheet (with its original accompanying tissue-guard protecting the text). Clean, well-preserved and VG+ to Near Fine in its off-white wrapper, with just a touch of creasing along the top-edges. Laid-in is the publisher's boroadside, which gives a succinct accounting of how this piece came to be: Robert Frost's recital of the poem "has been printed by Mr. Dard Hunter, Jr. from the first font of type that he has cut and cast himself, and is one of his first pieces of printing. It is on hand-made paper, made by him and his father, an authority on paper, with whom he is associated at the Dard Hunter Paper Museum at Massachusetts Institute of Technology." Fewer than 100 copies printed. Near Fine. Item #13961
