A nicely-preserved copy of this wild and uncommon 1954 look at the world of female impersonators. With hundreds of photographs and dozens of biographies of many of the leading impersonators of the day, this book offers a detailed and thorough glimpse into a subculture that very little had been written about up to the mid 50s. An example of some of the chapter headings of the wonderfully unrestrained and unapologetic text: Femme Mimics in the Atomic Age, Clowns in Gowns, Jerks in Skirts and Female Impersonators in War and Crime. Tall quarto, 164 pgs. Stated second printing. Still tightly-bound and VG+ in a bright, VG/VG+ dustjacket. Several very small chips and unobrtusive closed tears along the edges of the front and back panels. Small former owner blindstamp as well on bottom of title page. Still, a very clean and presentable copy of this quirky, wonderful book.
