Autographed Musical Manuscript (from the Federico Fellini Film "Le Notti Di Cabiria")
Nino Rota
An early SIGNED draft of the original musical manuscript to Fellini's "Le Notti di Cabiria" [Nights at Cabiria] by the great Italian composer Nino Rota (1911-1979), one of the giants of 20th century film composition. The manuscript (written in Milan, ca. 1956) is for the pice tilted simply "Cabiria", from the 1957 Fellini film. It's SIGNED by Nino Rota on the first page (as "Nino R") and is executed entirely in pencil. An early draft, with several corrections and one repeated bar of rest marked through entirely. 5 pgs., consisting of 70 bars for accordion, mandolin and bass on two staves (treble and bass clef), containing all the major musical themes from the film. Nino Rota was Felliini's favorite film composer and authored the soundtracks for all of Fellini's films. Beginning with "The White Sheik" and including "Amarcord", "La Dolce Vita", "La Strada", "Juliet of the Spirits", "Roma", "8 1/2", "I Vitteloni", "Il Bidone" and many others. Rota went on to score films for many great Italian directors (including Luchino Visconti, Franco Zeffirelli, Renato Castellani and Mario Monicelli), as well as non-Italian luminaries such as King Vidor, Rene Clement and Edward Dmytryk. He also scored Coppola's "The Godfather" and "The Godfather Part II", for which he won the Oscar. He also composed many operas, ballets and comedies and was highly-regarded as a conductor. He spent much of his later life teaching composition in Milan. A rare, early signature and the only musical manuscript by Rota that we're aware of to come on the market in a number of years. The 5 pg. manuscript is in bright, beautiful condition and is housed in an attractive, half-leather, custom made box, with descriptive gilt-lettering at the spine. A wonderful piece. (Item ID: 5818)
